President – Kimberly McGhee, PhD
Kimberly earned her doctorate in comparative literature at the State University of New York at Buffalo. Her special interests were Russian and French literature and film and her dissertation, entitled To Duty Doubly Bound, developed a theory of melancholy and applied it to films by Andrey Tarkovsky and Ingmar Bergman and novels by Toni Morrison and Fyodor Dostoevsky. She taught for almost 20 years at a number of universities (most in the South), offering courses in basic French, composition, English/world literature, film, and technical and professional writing. While teaching, she also worked as a freelance editor of scientific articles for US and international (Japanese and Korean) authors, particularly in immunology. After years of teaching, she decided to make a career transition into full-time scientific communication, accepting a position as grants development specialist at the Department of Anesthesiology, Medical College of Georgia. Since 2007, she has been at Mayo Clinic Proceedings and is now the managing editor. Her personal interests include movies and gardening. She is concerned about environmental issues and received training and worked as a habitat steward for the National Wildlife Federation. (E-mail Kimberly at pres…).
